Disassembling (and reassembling) a IBM UltraBase X3 Dock

If you want to know how to disassemble a IBM UltraBase X3 Docking Station, then read on. You can click on the images to enlarge them

Prerequisites

You'll probably need a cutter, and a tool to unscrew the screwholes of the VGA-port etc.

Step 0

Remove the drive from the ultrabay, (obviously) the laptop and all cabling, the ultrabase-battery if present and everything I have not thought of.

Step 1

Remove the screws pointed to by the red arrows. They are hidden by black stickers, you have to remove those first; use a cutter to lift the stickers.

Step 2

Slide your cutter alongside the edges between the plastic part your laptop usually rests on (the "cover") and the outer part, and loosen the cover.
Lift the cover, and remove it. Watch out for the movable hooks (green) which fixate your laptop when docked in. You won't have to worry about the both small plastic squares (blue) which move your laptop upwards when docking out, they are mounted on the cover (that is, there is not a hole in the cover through which the things mounted in the bottom part come out).
To remove the part, you might need to twist the ultrabase a bit in order to get it over the hooks below the palm rest. You might have to use mild force.

Step 3

Remove the screws highlighted in the picture above. Watch out, these are different types of screws!

Step 4

Remove the metal protection you just unscrewed.

Step 5

Remove the three screws fixating the ultrabay and lift the glue strips.

Step 6

Unscrew the screwholes of the parallel, serial and VGA ports.

Step 7

Lift and remove the board on which the ports are mounted. Under the "Push" imprint (above the docking connector), and in the middle of the ultrabase, two connectors are located. Lift the board upwards to not damage the two connectors.

Reassembling

Just follow the steps backwards :). There is nothing special to watch out for.

Disclaimer

I hope that the following is obvious, still I want to explicitly state that:
